Bourns
Andrew Bourns was born and raised in Galway, Ireland where he began riding at just three years old. A natural talent was apparent from the beginning after his grandmother bought him and his brother, Christopher, their first pony leading to many successes in the pony ranks throughout his home country.
In the pony jumpers, Andrew represented Ireland for the first time earning the Bronze Medal at the European Pony Championships. The following year, he helped Team Ireland bring home the Silver Medal. Moving on to horses, he represented his home country at both the European Junior Jumping Championships and the European Young Rider Jumping Championships.
Andrew excelled in the sport of show jumping both in Ireland and Europe and began building a reputation as a rider who could produce young horses up to Grand Prix level. He represented the Irish studbook on two occasions at the World Breeding Championships in Lanaken while continuing to take numerous wins on the National Grand Prix Circuit at home and was awarded a bursary for his efforts at the 2002 Dublin Horse Show CSI5*.
Andrew has spent the majority of his professional career focused on sourcing and producing horses - Roundthorn Madios, Christobar, Gatsby, Caspar, Diego and CHS Inception to name a few - which have taken him and riders across the world up to the CSI5* Grand Prix Level. Some of Andrew’s own accomplishments include Top Placings in the 2012 Nations Cup CSI5* at Spruce Meadows, the 2012 Dublin Horse Show CSI5* Grand Prix and winning the 2016 World Cup Qualifier in Bromont.
Today, Andrew continues to represent his home country of Ireland at the top international level of competition with Bourns Sport Horses produced Sea Topblue and Darquito. He combines his active show schedule with training talented up and coming riders and prides himself on matching the right horses to the right riders in order to help them achieve their roles.
